A thrust ball bearing is a type of rotary rolling element bearing. Like other types of ball bearings they permit rotation between the parts and are designed to support a high axial load while carrying out parallel to the shaft. Usually they are composed of two washers (raceways) which are grooved to the rolling ball elements and are typically caged. As opposed to the roller thrust bearing, it can generally operate at higher speeds but at lower loads. Some of the important factors while selecting the thrust bearings from AST are that

The thrust bearings should be in pairs
The bore of one washer in the set should conform to the specifications
The bore of the mating washer will be ~ .007 larger because it has a clearance hole with a shaft.

The thrust bearings are of different types which are thrust ball bearings, cylindrical thrust roller bearings, tapered roller thrust bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings, fluid bearings and magnetic bearings.
